Philadelphia City Paper reports that, at an event earlier this week in Philadelphia, Rick Santorum said the following:
"If you don't think we're in a war, then think again," said Santorum, justifying President George Bush's wiretapping procedures to listen in on possible terrorist conversations. "Most people don't believe there is war. And the war could have been avoided. Now we're in a war, but it's a different kind of war." (Emphasis ours)
WHAT? Did we miss something? Most people don't believe we're in a war? Rick can you please tell us who these people are? Are they the people who fell for President Bush's "Mission Accomplished" routine?
Or perhaps some people forgot that we were in a war because they
heard you tell them to serve their country by displaying your bumper stickers.
But a war? Where's the Congressional Declaration? Who are we "at war" with? Iraq? Terror? What?
Where the US IS at war, however, at least metaphorically, is at home. If you're a liberal, a progressive, a minority--the Republican party and their willing lickspittles in the press want you eliminated. THAT'S war.
"Most people don't believe there is war." As if there's a group of people who, being shown a picture of tanks firing at each other, simply think it's a video game? That dead babies in ditches are just what, performance art?
What the hell is wrong with the Frothy Mix? I think the low-30's are getting to his already-mushy brain.
How he got elected to the Senate is truly God's own mystery.

Don't encourage him by letting him think that g-d approves.
What happened in Afghanistan was a police action plain and simple.
If we are to stick with the constitution then the rules stipulate that a real war means a declaration of war be submitted to the congress by the president. Not a permission slip to conduct hostile military retaliation. That's not a war. That's toilet papering someone's house after it's residents threw eggs at yours.
If we're going to stick by the rules then a formal declaration of war should have been submitted. At least then everything's legal in the general sense of the word.
But I don't think you can declare a war on terrorism.
Terrorism is a tactic, a strategy, a momentary state of mind and emotion. Terrorism will always be here. It will never go away. We will be employing it today, tomorrow, and every day for the rest of our existence. How do you fight that? How do you wage war on that? It's like waging war on hate. It's foolish to think you can do that. The entire concept of our military's 'shock & awe' efforts was to 'terrorize' the adversaries. Everytime you raise your fist to intimidate someone you are trying to terrorize your target into relenting or backing down. Just one more effort meant to control them. Just like terrorists seek to control us into doing what they want us to do and when we refuse they throw their punch.
Maybe someone should be telling people this sort of thing cause I truly wonder how many stupid americans there are out there who actually think this is a war and that we're fighting it against 'terror'?
But of course the political religion priests on the right do look at this as a war. A pathetic interpretation based more on their pathetic belief system which seems to compare all things to a war between good and evil.
There is no war. Other than the one we wage against everyone else and they will us.

The part where I get confused is if it's Eurasia or Eastasia we're at war with now.

Debbie Schlussel has the facts about a truck-driving school in Missouri where about 300 people who took the licensing test from May 2004 to December 2005 “had names that appeared to be Middle Eastern in origin.” That’s about 60% of the total number of people tested at the school.
Fortunately, the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force (a fancy name for a group that hasn't done much) raided the school, and the Missouri Highway Patrol has blocked the school from testing new students or issuing further licenses. Well, it's about time. What took so long?
The so-called "War On Terror" seems to be about War On People With Middle-Eastern Names. All the wingers are getting whipped into a frenzy because dark-skinned people are learning to drive trucks. I guess the fear is that soon they'll be dating the daughters of Republicans...

While I am on it. How did we rack up the biggest debt in the history of the Universe? Why isn't anyone fighting to save the Constitution. And WHY does Cheney giving Whittington a "facial" with his big gun no big issue, while Clinton splashing over Monica was?

Santorum has needed to be in a sanitorium for as long as I've been aware of his existence. He isnt going BONKERS ... he done WENT bonkers a long time ago. Why the people of PA would have that schlock spewing idiot as a senate representative is the type of question that would fit along with ...why would the american people elect a couple of drunken red state gangsters TWICE to lead this country down the downey path of international lawlessness.
Follow the money ... it is just that simple.
Get out of Iraq ... hardly ... not under this corrupt administration. Too many people making too much money because of our involvement in Iraq.
If we got out of Iraq right now, our economy would fall flat on its face I think. And, I think that is why Bush was so damn anxious to get us into Iraq. He doesn't give a twit about the Iraqi people, their freedom, or the tyranny of Saddam Hussein. He cares about the corporations making bazillions of dollars because we are there, and that is the bottom line!
Went onto the Santorium site and found a ton of false information which was not released correctly- only if there were the research resources to deal with this fellow.
One of the watch dog organizations state Santorium has 6% of his funding unaccounted for then we see the democratic candidate for this seat and find that it may be as much as half of the funds are unaccounted for in terms of who actually handed over the money through another organization (name excapes me, but 'American' is used in the title) which refuses to give out the actual names of the people who made
donations.
Also, check out the United for Peace and Justice demonstration coming up on April 29, New York City. They have a web site which has a real impact on this so-called-war!
