Hannity fund raises, you decide


Sean Hannity, co-host of the Fox News Channel's Hannity & Colmes, is apparently no longer content just to ask Rick Santorum softball questions every time he shows up on Sean's show. Hannity will be in Western Pennsylvania tomorrow to attend a fund raiser for Rick.

Here's what the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat says:

A newsman? No way

A scheduled appearance here Saturday by a big-name conservative talk-show host has raised more than a few eyebrows.

Sean Hannity, co-host of the Fox News “Hannity and Colmes” political talk show, will appear at a fund-raising breakfast with U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum, who is seeking re-election.

Said G. Terry Madonna, a Pennsylvania political analyst, “The talk shows are part entertainment, part politics.”

That’s clearly the case with Hannity.

We can understand why Santorum and Hannity like each other, it seems that they each have very little understanding of the concept of professional ethics.

Doesn't Fox News have rules against this sort of thing? Seriously, don't they?

I mean, most newspapers do (for that whole avoiding the appearance of impropriety thing), but don't most television news divisions do the same thing?

Only ethically challenged political candidates see any value in endorsements of them by high-school-only-educated people.

Perhaps only ethically challenged individuals would so casually de-value the opinions of those who have not been able to afford the luxury of college, or who have rejected the American university system as a glorified vo-tech training, or who have sought their "higher education" elsewhere. Surely there are more cogent criticisms of Mr Hannity than this type of elitist insult, which renders him a de facto "man of the people." Progressives (or anyone who is opposed to the insanity of our current leadership) would do well to sacrifice our defensive need to be Smartest Kid in the Class and stay focused on the very real incidents of government malfeasance & media misdirection which harm ALL of us -- even those wretched "high-school-only-educated people" among us.

I'm really trying to understand what the problem is here with this .. NO ONE said a word from the left when Begala and Carville were RUNNING John Kerry's Presidential campaign while HOSTING CNN's Crossfire ..

Oh, thats right, I forgot the double standard, we arent allowed to do it, but your side can .. Sort of like how you liberals vote and vote often ..

Michael, the difference is no one pretended to be "Fair and Balanced". Begala and Carville have consistently been portrayed as Democratic operatives. Will Hannity now be so identified? Knowing Faux News, I don't think so.

This really is a double-standard squawking -- Hannity is a self-described conservative pundit. He is not a reporter. The fair & balanced part of his show is Alan Colmes, who like Hannity, makes no bones about his being a liberally minded Democrat.

Quit your belly aching -- this is demagoquery, pure and simple, and doesn't add anything beneficial to the political discourse.

As the saying goes, birds of a feather, flock together. Santorum and Hannity, out of the same mold. Bob Casey, not much more than Santorum light.

Hannity distinguished himself, in my book, when he did a TV piece on some religious nut school teacher in California who claimed he had been forbidden by his bosses to teach about the Declaration of Independence because there was a reference to God. This is Santorum material, right wing error, blown way up for stpid Kool-aid drinking media fans. We won't have rick to kick around much longer.

Could you imangine Sean and Ricky at a party? All Sean would talk about is how he "is a great American" and Ricky would say how "The notion that college education is a cost-effective way to help poor, low-skill, unmarried mothers with high school diplomas or GEDs move up the economic ladder is just wrong."

Um, this is too funny. Only a complete moron would accept the ridiculous and asinine premise that Hannity is a reporter or newsman along the lines of a... Dan Rather.

His job is op/ed. He gets paid for his opinion, end of story. So don't get your knickers in a bunch, because he's biased. He's *supposed* to be biased. (What, you just realized this? What planet have you been living on?)

Extremism is not a good thing...not for Hannity...not for liberals who would operate at the opposite end of the spectrum...the Clinton administration was too far to the left...the Bush administration is too far to the right...both Democrats and Republicans at times seem to have problems identifying and representing the needs or desires of the majority of the population...or at least best represent the special interest groups that lobby and pay them off...extreme Capitalism and extreme Socialism...neither is a good thing...Mr. Hannity should not conduct his interviews in a bully like manner as it not the American way...the Islamic extremists who rely on the direct association of the will of the American people being one in the same as the actions of the Bush administration know how to manipulate the Islamic people to achieve their objectives...since we live in a relatively free and open society the American people are more difficult to manipulate by any group to achive their objectives...that is what truly makes us better than other countries...and generally better as a culture...America has been the melting pot for all people who wish to become Americans...the mixing of the different cultures and utilizing the good things from each culture is the truly progressive way of doing things...unfortunately sub-cultures exist that are religious based and often extremist...they do not mix well with the majority of the population...they are much less to interact and intermarry with the rest of the population...the melting pot process which allows the recognition and acceptance of the good things a particular sub-culture has to offer can not take place...the proponents of blind faith...whether Christian, Jew or Muslim utilize religion to achieve their objectives...extremism is usually their way...if God created everyone and everthing for the intention of having one big happy and healthy family then all leaders...especially religious leaders...should be striving to take care of all people, all the animals and the earth itself the best way possible...this is obviously not happening...God has never been prejudiced against his own creation...the Torah...the Bible...the Koran...contradictions exist as to what have been God`s intentions and instructions to his creation...Christ talked about the hypocrites...cartoons depicting Muhammed dressed as a terrorist bomber are not good for public relations with the Islamic group of peoples...Islamic extremists who react to cartoons of this type by killing others only justify the cartoon if they consider themselves representing or defending Muhammed...if Muhammed himself would demand the deaths of those who would make a derogatory cartoon of him then he would not be the prophet of God that the Islamic group considers him...where is America heading?...does the GOP represent the majority of Americans or the extreme Capitalists...what has been the actions and leadership of the Bush administration...make a list of the actions and consider the results of those actions...make the necessary changes to correct things...everyone may have to compromise to get things moving in the right direction...what is the true US economic base..is it stable...is it based on productivity...is it based on short term profits for those who can manipulate the system...have we built a house of cards...we have been the best in the past...we are waivering...let the leaders get together and right the ship...present all the facts...forget the finger pointing...just concentrate on improving things and projecting confidence to America and the world...if we are all supposed to be Americans and friends then its time for our leaders to lead by example...Democrats vs Republicans does not work...prove to us that the American Political Party System is not failing the people...that is your job...
