We noticed something interesting while watching a
KDKA-TV story about the controversy surrounding the home that Rick Santorum owns in Penn Hills. Rick claims that he stays there when he's in Pennsylvania, and his mother-in-law recently told KDKA that the Santorums spent five days there last week. But, if you look at the two pictures below, it doesn't look like the lawn has been mowed in quite some time. Do you think Rick didn't have time to mow it or do you think he just didn't notice how long it had gotten?

For comparison's sake, here's a shot of the Santorum lawn in Virginia looking very tidy.
When he's defeated in November, I'm betting that's not the last we hear from this prissy little buttwipe. In a sane world, he'd be selling insurance in some miserable little town, like a Pennsylvania version of Wichita.
I triued checking their website, but the link to the ordinaces was not working.
Section 301.6 Noxious weeds (Amended): All areas within two hundred feet (200) of any structure shall be kept free from noxious weeds or plant growth in excess of ten inches (10") in height. Weeds shall be defined as all grasses, annual plants and vegetation other than trees or shrubs, provided, however, that this term shall not include cultivated flowers or gardens, parcels of ground over one acre in size, or properties owned by the Municipality of Penn Hills, the Penn Hills School District, or Allegheny County. These provisions do apply to vacant lots in otherwise developed residential areas with adjacent homes and lawns. In this case, a landowner shall control noxious weeds and keep vegetation below ten inches (10") in height regardless of the presence or absence of a home or structure. It shall be the duty of any person owning, leasing, occupying, or controlling any plot of ground in Penn Hills to prevent the growth of weeds thereon.

Take it easy on the Insurance guys.
The PA home is basically a nice 1950's 3 Br STARTER Home.....
The home in Va is a McMansion probably less than 5 years old.....
There is no way the Senator who raises the most money from lobbyists and is arguably the sixth or seventh most powerful member of the GOP, spends ANY time in the starter home.
just a thought....
But whatever. Santorum's a creep/crook/hypocrite... like that's news to anyone here.
My hometown isn't toney either. You'd be surprised at what ordinaces are on the books.
I bet you there is one about letting your grass grow too long and looking unsightly. At the very least it would prove to be yet another embarrassment to Senator Santorum.
Time for the city to institute action against the abandoned building!
management company which by all appearances seems to be legally setup to line the pockets of certain HOA reps.
Thems his kind of peeps.
Of course, it would be INSURANCE FRAUD if he claimed the building was lived in when it wasn't. And I'm sure Ricky wouldn't engage in INSURANCE FRAUD, would he?
That would be Oil City?
But no. They didn't put it to rest. Now, normally I'd think that was just Rick being a smug little prig, but he's a crafty little prig and so is his media consultant.
So......I think they had done polling and decided that "children in danger" would be a great way to spin this. They just sat back and waited until the Vecchio's raised the issue again -- and they lept on it, running a specious attack ad and acting all put-upon.
Did it work, or did it backfire? Time will tell. I know they think it was a brilliant bit of spin, but, living in Pittsburgh and seeing repeated shots of that tiny home on TV makes me think this was a total debacle for the already faltering Santorum campaign. Most people will be left with the image of that little house....owned (but not lived in) bu a big mouth guy from VA.
Pilt
Property values for existing homes in Penn Hills have been virtually stagnant for at least a decade. That's why Santorum's creative use of PH tax dollars was so outrageous. It is not a wealthy community but it has always put a lot of effort into its schools.
And that 3 bedroom starter home -- that's the kind of house I grew up in and that my mother will probably live in until she can't anymore.

Every day put another 'Impeach Bush' or 'I like sex with dogs' sign in his front yard and take a picture. See how long that goes on before they come down. Perfect op-ed material.
The school district seeks to be relieved of having to pay for the education of n0n-residents and Mr santorum fought it. Even with the increase in taxes, Penn Hills still has one of the lowest tax rates in Allegheny county.
After the election and Mr Santorum is (hopefully) voted out, I'd like to see his family move into their 3 bedroom house. If not, maybe PH can take some action to get the funds it spent on Cyberschool for his children back.
