Santorum Wants Credit


This morning Rick Santorum appeared on Imus in the Morning to tout the unanimous passage of the Combating Autism Act in the Senate. Deirdre Imus has been a major proponent of the act and Santorum was one of its sponsors.

We were surprised when Deirdre began her questioning of Rick with the following question, "Why did your Communications Director call me asking me if I would write an op-ed piece for the Philadelphia Inquirer, quote, praising your work on the CAA bill?"

Rick answers that he has found it very hard to get the Pennsylvania media to cover his hard work on the bill and says that Deirdre deserves a great deal of credit for her hard work. Deirdre responds by saying she doesn't want credit, she just wanted the bill passed and she hopes Rick isn't looking for her to write an op-ed as a quid pro quo.

Imus later chimed in to say he told Deirdre not to write the op-ed because, "all Senator Santorum is doing, is doing what we're paying him to do."

i live in chicago, where (thankfully) we don't have imus on our airwaves. but what is it with these people and cowboy hats?

quid pro quo is such a way of life in DC that I bet Santorum was pretty offended. They just can't imagine any intelligent person actually doing something for someone without getting something in return.

If Ricky had donated to that "charity" that Imus runs, I'm sure he could have gotten a favorable review from Deidre. Santorum must have gotten so used to being on the receiving end of bribes that he clean forgot that sometimes you have to give them, too.

I have reviewed Imus considerably more than the first 6 posters, and he is one of the best interviewers in the National Media. You can make fun of him, but his show is peppered with gems. Unfortunately his wife and her products are ridiculous, but a man has to do what a man has to do.

Imus is a fake cowboy. He runs his ranch and that goofy non-profit kid-capade as a tax deduction and nothing more. I don't believe for a minute Santorum did any of this because he cares, it's as timely campaign-oriented move and nothing more.

What kind of sweet deal does Santorum have with the Philadelphia Inquirer where his communications director decides what gets printed?

Does this mean the Inquirer is as corrupt as Senator man-on-dog?

Diedre is upset because Ricky and his buddies changed the wording on the bill to try to exclude any of the research grant money for "environmental causes" to exclude research into vaccines or their additives (mainly the mercury additive thimerosal).

Dodd was trying to keep it in but slick Rick was doing the bidding of pharmica and trying to prevent any such investigations.

Pharmica and the FDA don't want people to know they poisoned an entire generation of infants.

Diedre wants to bring that to light.

THAT part of the video where this is discussed is UNFORTUNATELY missing.

Imus may be a registered Republican, but he is pro-choice and pro-stem cell research; was against Iraq War from the beginning; has as many "lefty" guests as "righty" ones; has never liked Bush, even going back to 2000 (voting for McCain via write-in ballot); endorsed and voted for John Kerry in 2004; and is well-known among the New York West Side upper crust for having voted for many Dems over the years.

I don't agree with him much of the time, and I find his dislike of the Clintons and Gore off-putting, but I find more news value and balance on his show than most of the morning drive-time drivel.

I just want to say, that I'm really offended by the Imuses involvement in autism. They are ignorant of the reality of autism, ignorant of the science of autism and fools and patsies to a group of psycho antivaxers. Bob Wright pulls the strings on Imus when it comes to autism. I have no idea if Santorum is a good guy or a bad guy. I don't care. I care that dingbat in a cowboy hat (she's not pretty if you see her whole face) is verbally abusing autistic children. I LOVE my autistic child. Deedee babes has no stinking idea what it means to have an autistic child and has bought into a line that it's a nightmare to have an autistic child -- and probably believes it's best to not vaccinate your kid -- and if he's autistic haul him to a quack and get him chelated to rid his brain of imaginary "toxins." Deirdre is a 24 karat gold plated fool (as far as her interface with autism).

Don't be so offended. Pull yourself together. There is some very compelling evidence that link autism with vaccinations. The Imuses are attempting to continue the discussions. Only good can come from that. Deidre Imus abusing autistic kids?? Get your head out of your butt. You sound like a ND parent. Good luck with that.

I think some folks are missing the point here - its not whether Imus & Co. are all they say they are about combating autism. Its the idea that little Ricky tried to not only cop credit where it isn't due, but also tried to find a way to forge public opinion in his favor.

Its not really that much of a stretch for Rick - after all he's proven he's a scumbag who would sell his mother to get re-elected, and he's about a mile and a half behind in the polls right now. Imus and crew are an entirely different story and discussion for another time.

This tawdry non-issue (sorry autism parents) is subterfuge that is part of a barrage of topics that allow politicians to pretend to align themselves with god.

Regarding the cowboy hats, what if Imus and Deidre wore pirate outfits and had a parrot on their shoulder and a peg-leg? That would look pretty stupid, huh? Well, cowboy hats are stupid, too.

Don Imus and the rest of his often irreverant crew are actually pretty sharp knives. Imus himself, though, is occassionally blind on certain people and topics. One of them being Rick Santorum. Somehow, Rick has managed to convince Imus that he's on Don's side on a couple of Imus's pet issues. Therefore Imus has been seeing Santorum's glass as more than half full for the past year or so. Makes me want to upchuck everytime Santorum's a guest. Imus is diametrically opposed to Santurums politics on 95% of the nationally important issues, but continues to trumpet his re-election bid based on the support of a couple of relatively minor topics he and Rick agree on. Don needs to find a new champion for his causes. Santorum's a generally reckless fraud who deserves to be sent packing.

I am so greatful for Deidre Imus and her interest in helping Autistic children and their parents. She and Don Imus are doing so much for all children, who cares if its a tax write off. Get a life you critics
