Rick Throws down the gauntlet

Today's Washington Times reports on Rick's challenge to Senator Hillary Clinton to publicly debate whether it takes a family or a village to raise children.

Sen. Rick Santorum yesterday challenged "radical" Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton to a serious debate on who is responsible for raising children--the family, the government or the children.

..."I'd love to have a serious debate," Mr. Santorum said.

"I believe her view is one that says 'government' and 'top-down.' I believe my view is the view that's held by most Americans, which means we need strong families and strong communities, and we don't need government really disassembling those institutions, which I think her view of the world does."

With all due respect to the Washington Times, if you watch the video of Rick's remarks you'll see that he didn't say "disassembling those institutions", he actually said "dissembling those institutions." We hate to see Rick misquoted. Here's the video:

That debate sounds like a great idea to us. But, we have one piece of advice for Rick based on the video clip of his challenge to Sen. Clinton. Before you debate Hillary you may want to open the dictionary and learn the difference between dissemble and disassemble. Here's a hint, one of them means to hide facts.

Good catch. He clearly stated "dissembling".

dissemble: SIMULATE, PRETEND TO BE

So, IOW, Santorum is saying:

"...we don't need government really SIMULATING those institutions, which I think her [Hillary] view of the world does."

Since when has Hillary espoused the view that the Government needs to pretend to be an American family?

If anybody has, it's Santorum, because he wants government to act like the number 1 family member making the decision for the Daughter/Sister/Wife/Mother/ to not have an abortion - regardless of their personal circumstances or wishes.

Santorum needs to go to the Sanitorium.

More ridiculous than Rick's misuse of disassembling (ignorance he shares with Bush; see http://stevecopy.blogharbor.com/blog/_archives/2005/6/2/902753.html), is his emphasis on families and ... community. What does he think a village is? Hillary's whole point was that the whole community should play a constructive role in turning children into responsible adults. What about that does he want to debate?

he doesn't want to debate her, really. He doesn't want to hear her say that a "village" = families and communities. He's too dense to recall that her husband's whole agenda was driven by and for "responsibility, community, family." He wants to have a bogey man (or woman) -- Ted Kennedy works okay, and Hillary works great! He doesn't mind that his rantings about "village elders" and "top down" philosophies are complete bull -- it's just crap Rick made up and assigned to her. He doesn't care if it isn't true. Nothing he says is true. It's just what his peeps want to hear.

Actually, Senator Rick ought to be thinking about Bob Casey, his opponent in next year's election.

Senator Rick appears to think that Casey will be a pushover, so he can continue to push his book and attack the GOP's favorite whipping girl, Senator Clinton.

There will be no debate, because if there was, Hillary would pound him into pieces verbally, and all he would be able to do is whine and "stay on message," like most conservatives do when faced with facts and reality.

Santorum is so far divorced from reality it's not even funny. The man has fleeced the Penn Hills School Distrcit, enriched himself at the public trough, and truly believes he is presidential material. Pathetic.

I just hope my fellow Pennsylvanians go to bat for the good of the state and the country and vote this explicitly evil man out of a job.

How about a debate with a Panel of working and single moms. Is there another woman in the state who doesn't use birth control besides Mrs. Dick Santorum? Oh wait, she doesn't live in this state, but you get my drift.

It's absurd-- in some key ways Hillary and Santorum are on the same side. Both of them believe in the government having the right to define who can or cannot define themselves as a family. To both of them gay couples raising children together aren't real families, the parents shouldn't be able to marry and be legally related to each other as spouses. Granted Hillary's viewer is much more open-minded, but they are on the same side when it comes to who gets to define what is a family-- the federal government.
